About Us

The Gateway to Executive Real Estate

…for work, living, and leisure.

We build with sustainability in mind. This is why all our properties, including the Churchgate Towers, the World Trade Center Abuja, our warehouses, and other edifices, continue to withstand the test of time and deliver comfort, luxury, and exclusivity above par.

The Churchgate Group has continuously enhanced the productivity of the most populous African nation through multi-channel business industries and cloud-embracing monuments. We are shooting for the stars and redefining the skylines of Lagos and Abuja with distinctive residential and commercial real estate of exceptional quality that positively enhances communities.
Our History

Over 5 Decades of Excellence

In 1968,

Mr. Ishwardas Mahtani and his two sons founded what is today known as the Churchgate Group. However, we started as a textile manufacturer and large-scale importer and distributor of essential commodities,

In the 1970s,

we sought new expansion opportunities relentlessly, and this led us to expand into industries like deep-sea fishing and shrimping, beer production, and glass manufacturing.

In the 1980s,

we ventured into the banking and finance arenas and set up two local banks: Chartered Bank PLC in 1988 and Regent Bank PLC over a decade later.

In the early 1990s,

we were recognized as one of Nigeria’s business leaders, employing approximately 18,000 Nigerians and contributing substantially to the country’s industrial development.

In 1995,

we were forced to reassess our focus when all protections of the local textile industry were removed, allowing the importation of all textiles without any restraint and thus imposing a very new and profoundly hostile operating environment. We had no choice but to shut down many of our industries and consolidate, leaving much of our accumulated land bank of more than 1.7M square meters completely idle.

In the late 1990s,

we decided to lease out excess space in our office and warehouse properties. Rental yields at that time were attractive and so we went on to leverage our other vacant land assets and forayed into real estate development.

In the 2000s,

Churchgate specialized mainly in high-end commercial real estate, which was leased out to multinational corporations. We also maintained a large warehouse portfolio that was rented out to traders and industrialists.

In 2010,

Churchgate embarked upon the development of a new project — the World Trade Center, Abuja — comprising commercial, residential, retail, and hospitality components. Since its completion, the World Trade Center, Abuja will stand as one of the largest mixed-use developments in Nigeria.

And till date,

Churchgate has continued to maintain strategic partnerships with international brands that trust the company concerning its future projects, and Churchgate is on track to erect a series of new, groundbreaking landmarks.

Uplifting Nigeria. Enriching Lives.
